Founding Partners

SC1 is a truly integrated approach to an Innovation District that brings together seven committed partners with over a century of healthcare innovation history, and a shared purpose of tackling the lack of health equity locally and globally, to put life sciences at the heart of a major global city.

  • The Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is consistently ranked as the number one Trust in London for clinical research. It operates across five leading hospitals that provide a full range of lifelong, general and specialist care, as well as clinical research, innovation, education, and training. The Trust is notable for their leadership in cardiovascular, respiratory and children’s health.

  • The King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of London's largest and busiest teaching hospitals and operates across five sites. The Trust specialises in nationally and internationally recognised liver disease and transplantation, neurosciences, haemato-oncology and foetal medicine work.

  • The SLaM NHS Foundation Trust is the largest mental health trust in the United Kingdom and unique in the world in regards to its wide-ranging capabilities across care and treatment, science and research, and training. The KCL Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN)continues its partnership with the Maudsley NHS Trust in driving world-class clinical research, through joint initiatives such as the National Institute for Health Research Biomedical Research Centre.

  • SC1 is becoming the ‘go-to’ ecosystem for start-ups, entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises with an established network of support from academic and clinical experts, funding opportunities, a wide-ranging pool of talent and resources at every point along the entrepreneurial journey.

  • SC1 leverages local talent, linking residents to jobs, creating pathways into the sector from school to workplace, and works with industry partners to ensure that new jobs created cater to diverse qualifications and skill-levels.

  • SC1 is reimagining the model for open, collaborative, public-private partnerships that are needed to creatively solve complex healthcare challenges and drive health equity locally and globally. SC1 explores trends in healthcare such as personalised care, early detection, diagnosis and prevention while leveraging data, digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence as a key part of our partnership strategy.

  • Establishing a range of adaptable spaces that cater for the needs of start-ups and entrepreneurs, SMEs and multi-national organisations. Developing buildings and creative spaces within Lambeth and Southwark that will foster co-location and partnership within the private and public sectors, around the shared goal of improving health equity, whilst ensuring a positive impact on local communities.
